Wire dimensions and circuit breaker of 220Volts for 8Amps Air situation?

Qusetions: The contractor set up a 20A circuit breaker and three.5mm wire (not sure). it had been focused for an air situation outlet. My Air Conditioner was a 2hp rated 8A. But regretably the circuit breaker along with the wire related for the breaker burned up (toasted). Did the contractor connect the perfect wire dimensions.

Can you advise the appropriate wire dimensions and circuit breaker. If in a position present me some computation or information.

Thanks

Answers:Okay, in US terms, three.5mm operates out to amongst seven and eight AWG. 14 AWG is very good for 15 amps (12 cont.) And twelve AWG is very good for twenty amps (16 cont) So, your twenty amp breaker with three.5mm wire is way very good for eight amps @220v. Now my query is, was it a two pole breaker? right here from the states we should use a two pole for 220v. (110 on every leg to neutral, 220 amongst legs). Only factor I can assume of would be considered a loose connection that heated up on the breaker producing injury to the two the wire and breaker.

Answers:What you need to have would be considered a 20amp breaker (ok) the wire wants to get for security and probably altering for anything else from the foreseeable future 10-3. ten Gauge wire and 3 wire 2-hot 1-neutral 1-ground
